Breast Ultrasound
Trans-dermal (skin surface) ultrasound scan. Assesses the breasts and surrounding structures.
You will be asked to remove your clothes from the waist up and lie under a sheet. You will be covered up as much as possible for the scan. Some warm gel is applied to the breast and a probe is used to transmit ultrasound images to the screen for interpretation.
These scans are to assess the breasts and surrounding structures, for example, to assess masses or lumps, pain and swelling.

What to expect
The sonographer will discuss the results with you. These results will be with your referrer in 1 day. If urgent the sonographer will arrange for the report to be faxed urgently and may also phone your referrer.
You may also need a full breast assessment service in addition to and after this scan.
